Reverse Shopping Lists

So as many of you out there that use shopping lists most likely use them as you would normally, to fill your lists with "like items", be that herbs, ore, enchanting mats, engineering mats etc. I have many of these myself.

Or for the crafter's out there, I have a shopping list for the engineering pet and all the mat's that make him up (I am pretty sure that bunny is a him - though I haven't checked) but you get the idea. Shopping lists consisting of 'one huge item' and all the ingredients to make that.

However have you considered the reverse?  Have you considered making a shopping list of All the Cata herbs and then adding on that list all the flasks, pots, pigments, inks, etc you could get from those? I touched on this a little with my post "Simple is Best", where I talked about seeing how far you could process leather from scraps and still make money. If you recall we stopped short of the Pristine Hides because it was more profitable to sell them Heavy Savage Leather.

So in that post we learned about using the Undermine Journal and excel to calculate our profits but what about a quick glance tool where its just 'obvious'? For that, I use the Auction Shopping Lists. A sample shopping list which I have is:

These are our ingredients:

Stormvine
Azshara's Veil
Twilight Jasmine
Cinderbloom
Heartblossom
Whiptail

Then I add on the items I frequently create from them:

Ashen Pigment
Blackfallow Ink
Inferno Ink
Elixir of Deep Earth
Elixir of Impossible Accuracy
Elixir of Mighty Speed
Elixir of the Cobra
Elixir of the Naga
Ghost Elixir
Prismatic Elixir
Flask of Flowing Water
Flask of Steelskin
Flask of Titanic Strength
Flask of the Draconic Mind
Flask of the Winds
Mysterious Fortune Card
I continue to utilize the Excel breakdown for these items. I basically have a spreadsheet that I have added in the costs of the herbs and it will auto calculate the # of items I could make of each of the following (on average) and then I just look at today's sell price to get my best plan of action.

I used a Cata list for this example but keep in mind, you should never abandon old world content because almost everyone does. That means a clear and open market for you. So make lists for each release if possible for your professions. I am sure some days when you check your shopping lists you are going to be pretty shocked at what you find some of the old world items are selling for or, that some huge demand items are not even available that day. That is where you get to swoop in and steal the market on that item!

Gnomish Army Knives

Gnomish Army Knives have been a long time go-to item of mine. If you are a gnomish engineer you are set,  you can craft these for 20-30g. If you are not, watch for these items to come up AH and snipe them within the same price range. Many posters seriously underestimate the value and market of these items and you will often see them posted at ridiculously low prices.

On my server however these will sell nicely between 80-125g each. The best thing about them is that they are used by five different professions. (and they act as jumper cables if you are an engineer).

So the mat's required for these are:

1[Blacksmith Hammer] 18c 18c
1[Mining Pick] 81c 81c
10[Saronite Bar]   1g 50s   15g 0s
1[Skinning Knife] 82c 82c

And they can be used by Skinners, Miners, Cooks, Engineers and Blacksmiths!  That is a pretty huge audience.   The items this knife replaces are: Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor, Arclight Spanner, Flint and Tinder, Blacksmithing Hammer, Mining Pick, and a Skinning Knife. Not bad for bag space saving if you share even 1 of these professions with another, it will save space in your bags. Which is at a premium usually.

Something to think about is, the bigger an audience is for something, the greater its odds of selling for you. Similar to selling ore in its truest form, you are opening yourself up to multitude of uses, once its processed it's audience is reduced.

Are there other items like this you can recommend that have a huge audience of uses?

Chaos Orbs Tradeable and New Pets for Chanters?

Well, MMO posted a very eye opening Q&A with Wow Dev's See below!

Are there any plans to make Chaos Orbs BoA or even BoE? - Mommycow (NA/ANZ)

Yes! They will be unbound in a future patch.

Need I say more? If you are a crafter or a true Auction House junkie and don't do runs, so you have not bought recipes due to the need for orbs, make sure it is now in your plans. If you have high return orb recipes, make sure you have plans of stocking mats to churn these out once this happens.

On the flip side if you currently have a stockpile of Chaos Orbs because you don't craft frequently, you have a couple of options, make sure you use them up before the value inevitably drops once they become BoE items or keep stockpiling they will definitely be selling at a decent 500-1000g each once this patch drops at least for a couple of weeks.

Either way BoE orbs are a potential goldmine once this happens :) Start getting creative with what you want to do with them.

This caught my eye as well.

Will enchanters ever get the option to create wands again (maybe other caster items as well using a blank template weapon that could be made by blacksmiths), as they tend to be extremely rare outside of the a couple locations and the new ZA/ZG loot tables? - Flayre (NA/ANZ) [/i]

In general, we want to add more fun themed recipes to enchanting like the magic lanterns. Concerning wands, we've been discussing several options, and most everything we could do with them is still on the table

Ahhh pet's so much fun and so much money! I hope its a pet, I hope its a pet! Keeping in mind they do not say it is a pet but... maybe :)

Simple is Best

Ore was crazy again today so off I go on alternate routes once again.  Today I opted for a slightly different route and logged on my mage for a couple of hours and just did ports. I did these about 1 hour before raid time, to be optimal. In one hour I sold 11 ports and took in about 320g. At almost no expense this to me - nice change in my pocket.

I also decided it was a good time to process some Savage Leather Scraps. I have little formula on my 'daily calc's spreadsheet" where I can just enter todays price of scraps and see if it is worth it to buy them and convert them to Heavy Savage Leather. Prices on my server today are listed below:

Then I take that one step further and see if it is profitable to then convert them to pristine hides. Using the following spreadsheet breakdown:

The answer in both cases as you can see in the area's marked in Green is yes, it is profitable today to process leather from scraps all the way up to Pristine Hides. Is it a ton of money no? But it is something to look at each day :)  Due to the lower profit on pristine hides I stuck it out today with Heavy Leather with a profit of 78g per stack with really no effort on my part, I'll take that :) I put up 20 stacks and they sold rather quickly netting me a quick 1600G.

For the Geeks:  The formula for the spreadsheet is:
  • Scraps X 25 = Heavy Sell Price.
  • Heavy Leather * 10 = Pristine Hide Price
Long story short, no ore to be found but I netted myself about 2000g in one hour and a bit. Not a bad bonus on top of my regular auctions and flips :)

Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Token in 4.2

So I'd like to talk about the Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Token's today. I have recently starting sitting on these with the thought in mind that if I am stockpiling potential mats for epic gems (which I am, even though the mats are still hypothetical) should I also be stockpiling my Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens for 4.2?

Stockpiling mats, stockpiling the currency for the new recipes, with me so far? My thought is yes! The reason behind this is not that I have all the current recipes worth picking up (I don't).  I got into the Jewelcrafting game a little late, it was sort of an afterthought (it was one of the only professions I did not have). I have only a handful of cut gem recipes currently.

My thought is that the bigger bang for my Jewelcrafter's Token buck is to buy the recipe's once 4.2 comes out. So for now I am stockpiling all the potential sources: Pyrite Ore (most likely not the case), Inferno Rubies and Heartblossom. There is always the potential this will of course come from processing the new 4.2 ore, Black Iron Ore.

So for the time being I have been tucking away my tokens and my mats. Though I have only been tucking away a portion of my mats, currently I am putting away about 50% of my daily prospecting take and any cheap mats I come across. These mats are currently still of value and it is important to keep the cash flow going now regardless of future income influx.

What are your thoughts? Are you a spend now person, or a save for a rainy day person. :)

Neutral Auction House Follow Up

So I have done a test of the Neutral Auction House today. Not bad results but also not a huge win. So, I had some Alliance only pets to post on the neutral auction house and decided to kill two birds with one stone. I had about 80 pets to post and I decided to scan the auction house between my postings and see what I found.

For the most part it was a strike out, but I did manage to snag myself 10 stacks of adamantite ore for 1 gold each, which on my server put me up 200g. The moral of my story would be, if you are going to the neutral auction house to post, it's worth having a look around at anything that might ring true as a stock transfer while you do it but I wouldn't make a special trip for this :)

As a side note, ore and herbs are both at an all time high on my server. So shuffles have been out of the mix for a couple of days. I am lucky enough to have every crafting profession out there on my toons so I switched over to embersilk bags and mysterious fortune cards for the day. All and all I did fairly well flipping them for the afternoon.

What do you switch to when ore and herbs price you out of a shuffle market?

Neutral Auction House Sniping Revival?

I was just reading through some very old WoW forum posts (sometimes old is new again) and something I had not thought about in a very long time popped up. Neutral Auction House Sniping. Is there still money to be had in this? I have an engineer so I have a portal to Gadgetzan which I used earlier this morning to post some Magic Lamps on the neutral Auction house. (You should do this if you haven't already today they sell for about 2X what they do on your local Auction House) but I digress, back to Auction House Sniping, so I was scanning the auction house (I believe now in reverse) I scanned all 3 pages (not a huge showing) and then I sorted highest to lowest to see what are the big movers on the Neutral Auction house and what should I watch for.

I made a huge mistake there, I should have been scanning that in reverse. One of the all time biggest uses of the Neutral Auction house, is sharing items between Horde & Alliance Accounts. This is done in VERY small increments of money, 5 gold on a recipe worth 100g for example. What I should have done was scan the Auction House lowest to smallest and check for items on the undermine journal or from my basic knowledge that were under priced and snipe them away :) So my plan going forward, starting later this evening, is to park my engineer in Gadget for a bit so I can do just that.  Anyone had any success with this recently? I will let you know how things go for me!!

Easier than I thought!!!

What you don't know CAN hurt you where gold making is concerned. This blog is to all of you who like me; 'thought' they knew how to make gold in WoW; but well... you didn't. Don't worry you will. :)

As the goblins so often say, Time is Money, never forget that.  The entire basis of being rich in WoW is based on how quick you can turn copper into gold and I am going to help you get there.  Making gold is simply put;  a numbers and instinct game. You want little investment with a large output. It is easier than you thought, but it does take some effort on your part.

Once I started a basic daily routine of making gold I was able to explode my gold to FIVE times in 3 weeks. I will be sure to let you know how my gold making is going, if you will do the same :) Ask questions and I will give you honest answers. I have been playing this game since Vanilla and I have spent hundreds of hours of my time focused on professions and gold making.

This blog will be a mix of what is happening on my server and why I am making the choices I am making daily to maximize my gold input along with my gold revelations and some of my 'ah-ha' moments over the course of time.
